Facebook Question: How does Social Media affect the Job Industry

                Even though Facebook gives new opportunities to your social life, it can also lead to your unemployment. Facebook, one of the worlds leading Social Networking sites, is now being monitored by some job sites. Whether you’re a new employee at your local fast food place, or a doctor on his/her big interview. Your Facebook is always public. And people will be watching. In an article posted on MSNBC.com, they stated that research done by Phonemon Institution, came up with that 35 Percent of Employers use Google to do a back ground check. And 23 percent look people up on social networking sites.  Even though the numbers are in the lower half of the percentile. You still may want to ask yourself. Is it worth my job? Should I take that risk of posting something inappropriate on Facebook? On the other hand, the job market is also affected in the sense that Facebook has opened a door of many, many jobs. Whether you’re in marketing, or you’re a web designer. Even if you design games. Facebook has a place for you. Speaking of web design, a study from the University of the University of Maryland says that the creation of the Facebook apps (IE. Farmville, words with friends, Draw Something.) Are responsible for around 182,000 jobs in the U.S. in 2011, In addition companies are using the Social Media phenomenon to their advantage. According to recent polls, Facebook`s ad revenue for 2011 was up 69% and has earned 3.1 Billion dollars just from ads. By using Facebook`s ad system (Which is where most of Facebook’s income comes from) “How we use, distribute and combine our professional information on Social Networking sites is completely up to us, a high degree of customization, and how open or closed out networks are, gives us the advantage of promoting as much or as little of ourselves as we like.” Whether you’re for or against the whole social networking craze, Facebook is the future. Job loss and job opportunities alike, Facebook has some great potential for my generation to score some really well paying, high degree jobs. In my opinion, Facebook should be taken very seriously.
